Making changes

What do you do when you are unhappy with your life? You cry, you complain, and then? You snap out of it and realize that if you are unhappy, you need to change. No one else is going to do it for you!

After much soul searching, I realized what I didn't like and what I can try to do to better the situation.

Let's start with my faith. I know that there are periods of spiritual ups and downs, just like the rest of life. A spiritual dry spell is where I was. I decided to try to pray a rosary every day. We had recently been to Fatima. I stood in the very spot where Our Lady appeared to those three children and told them to pray the rosary every day. It must be a good thing if Our Heavenly Mother appears and tells us so! 31 is the number of rosaries so far this year!

Next is my desire to exercise more, which is not a lofty goal considering that anything above nothing is more than I was previously doing! This one actually solved two separate problems. One, I am out of shape, and two, I needed to find something to do on post while Anna participates in the band program at the middle school. It is only an hour, but it is every day and it was killing our morning homeschool schedule. Tony can take her on Tuesday and Thursday, but that left three days where we had an hour to kill on post or go home and turn right around again. The gym has a family room. Tony kindly showed me how to use the treadmill and the elliptical machines. The kids can join in or play in the toy area. I downloaded some books onto my Ipad and I can walk or jog for about 40 minutes before we have to pick up Anna! The genius part of this is that unlike going on a walk with the kids, I don't have to stop or walk at their pace. I can really get my heart pumping! Also, it seems to be helping with keeping those winter blues at bay, which is a very good thing, my friends.

Lastly, Lent is coming. The thing I really want to work on is being a better example for my children. My attitude in particular. I won't go into the particulars, but I have a plan for "giving up" some bad habits and replacing them with better ones.     I shall pray for you, as you pray for me that I will let God take care of me and I can let my worries go. Anxiety is hard and robs me of my faith.
    Lent coming up is a new start and I hope to use the time to explore our faith as a family.
    My parents went to Fatima once. Life changing. : )

    1. Anxiety is very hard. You will be in my daily prayers and I find comfort knowing you are praying for me as well. May you and your family draw ever closer to one another and to Our Lord during this Lenten season.

  3. I need help in all those areas, too. There are so many of us sisters in anxiety, aren't there? Between anxiety and pain I find little time to truly enjoy life. I'll be spending Lent in a velcro shoe and on crutches so I'll hopefully have some growing time on my hands. Praying for you friend, as always.

The Door Table

Once there was a store in Georgia. It is no more, but how I wish it was. I likened going in there to treasure hunting. One never knew what was going to be in there, and you had to dig through and wade through all the "other people's treasures" to find your own. I once found a set of blue and white teacups and saucers from England. I found lace handkerchiefs, a rocking chair, and an end table. But by far the best find was my kitchen table. Fog and faith

 I stepped out into the coolness of the November morning to start the car and defog the windows, preparing to take Jack to school. Daylight had yet to appear. As we drove the many miles, the sky lightened, and we could see the mist hanging out just above the grass. We usually listen to a story together on our drive, adding commentary, exchanging a knowing glance or a shocked expression as the twists and turns unfold. I relish this time with Jack. I know that all too soon he will be preparing to leave the nest, like his sisters before him.  On the drive back, I pull my rosary from my purse and pray. By this time, the sun is just about to appear, making the sky a beautiful orange-pink on the horizon. I am pondering much as I pray, for the path I am on is once again rocky and uncertain. Such is life, whether we have faith or not. Faith makes it bearable. A Tale of a Tail (or the excitement of the day)

 First of all, I doubt anyone still checks this little old neglected blog, so I am probably talking to myself right now. But if by chance, there is still someone out there, I will tell the tale of the tail I came to tell. As little boys are apt to do, Peter left his rainboots outside on the front porch several days ago. As they do not add to the decor on the porch, I decided to bring them inside this morning and I put them by the back door, where they belong. There they sat, until the mail truck came by and tucked our mail into the box. I may or may not have mentioned that our property is surrounded by a moat during the rainy days. There is no going to collect the mail without rain boots. Seeing how Peter was supposed to be doing his math lesson, of course he eagerly volunteered to go get the mail. He hopped up from the table and went to put on his boots. The scream that came from him made me leave my seat! I thought he had hurt himself. He claimed there was a roach in his boot. I pick
